GSSP PRIMARY SCHOOL SWIMMING GALA INFO

Venue - Shooters Hill College, SE18 4LD

Events

• Each school can enter 3 boys & 3 girls for the length races and 3 boys & 3 girls for the width races.
• Length swimmers MUST be able to swim confidently in deep water and a minimum of 50m
• Width swimmers must NOT be able to swim more than 15m
• All events will start in the water
• Events 1 – 9 competitors = Width Swimmers
• Event 10 – 18 competitors = Length Swimmers

Swim wear

• All competitors must wear a swimming hat
• Goggles can be worn
• No football or Bermuda shorts to be worn by boys. Shorts must finish above the knee
• Girls must wear a one-piece swimming costume.
• No Jewellery to be worn in the swimming pool

Staffing

• 2/3 members of staff/helpers from each school will be required to attend for the supervision of the pupils during the swimming gala
• The teachers/helpers must be able to swim.
• At least one teachers/helpers must be with their pupils at all times on poolside.
• At least one teachers/helpers must supervise children if they need the toilet to ensure they return to poolside.

Health and medical Conditions

• The School teachers/helpers must give details of pupils suffering from any medical condition to the lifeguard prior to swimming gala commencing.
• The school teacher must ensure that those pupils who use inhalers will only be allowed to swim providing they have their inhaler available on poolside.

Fire alarm

• On hearing the fire alarm, the Lifeguard will clear the pool. All teachers/helpers must escort the pupils to the fire assembly point (MUGA)
